CNN
—

Christine Blasey Ford, the psychology professor who accused Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, uses a rare interview to cast explosive charges surrounding one of America’s most powerful positions. He detailed the trauma he faced after being forced into a guilty plea fight.

Ford told “CBS Sunday Morning” how unprepared she was for the backlash her 2018 testimony sparked and said she knew how the experience would affect her and her family. He suggested that he might not have come forward if he had done so.

“I like to use the word ‘idealistic,’ but I’m certainly naive about the consequences of testifying and how bad it could be,” Ford said, according to excerpts of the interview posted online. It might have been,” he said. “In a way, it was really good that I had no idea what it was going to be like afterwards, because I don’t think I would have jumped off the diving board if I had known.”

Mr. Ford, who has written a memoir about his experiences and is scheduled to be published on Tuesday, claims that Mr. Kavanaugh assaulted him during a party he attended in 1982, making him the second of former President Donald Trump’s He emerged as a key figure in the approval of Supreme Court nominees. In high school.

Mr. Kavanaugh vehemently denied the allegations.

Mr. Ford reflected on his decision to come forward in his book “One Way Back,” detailing the impact of Mr. Kavanaugh’s bitter confirmation process.

Ford wrote that people ask her if she thinks she “ruined” Kavanaugh’s life, even though Kavanaugh’s confirmation was ultimately confirmed.

“My answer to a question like that is, ‘I think your family probably had a hard time.'” Because that’s something I still feel bad about. ”

Mr. Kavanaugh was narrowly confirmed and has since become a major voice on the Supreme Court, which at times has allowed conservatives, who hold a 6-3 supermajority, to weigh in on controversial issues such as abortion, guns and affirmative action. It is a sign that you are heading towards a problem.

Ford has largely kept a low profile until now. In the aftermath of an emotional Senate hearing detailing his allegations, Ford said he had to repeatedly move his family and hire private security in response to threats he received.

“I wish I had known that it was something I could overcome on my own, rather than gradually drawing public attention,” she writes in the book. “I’ve lived a relatively quiet life as a mother, professor, and surfer. Literally overnight, I became front-page news. With just a little preparation, my name will be forever… I am captured by an image: me, wearing a navy blue suit that I don’t normally wear, solemnly vowing to tell the truth.”

Ford wrote that she never felt that media reports or other people’s books about her decision to come forward captured why she came forward.

“That’s a big part of why I’m dredging all of this again, as hard as it has been,” she wrote. “It’s up to me to tell my story correctly.”
