Microsoft has updated its AI chatbot Copilot to make it more accessible on Android smartphones. An update rolling out to the beta version of Copilot’s His Android app comes with a feature that allows a user to replace His Google Assistant with His Copilot as the default digital assistant on her Android smartphone.
Google lets users choose default digital assistant on Android
Google on Android allows users to choose the default digital assistant on their phones, and for a long time users have been using Assistant or Bixby (on Samsung phones), or Amazon Alexa, or even their own There was an option to select Gemini as the default assistant. With the latest His Copilot beta update you will be able to use it as your phone’s default His assistant.
This allows users to access Copilot without having to go to the app to run queries on Copilot. Once set as your default assistant, Copilot will be triggered directly when you long press the volume or home button.
Update details
As spotted by Mishaal Rahman, this new feature is live in a beta build version (27.9.420225014) and users can now download the latest version to use Copilot as a digital assistant on their phones. Ta.
However, this feature seems pretty half-baked, as it triggers the entire app rather than a pop-up screen like you’d see with Google Assistant, Bixby, or Gemini. You can also do the same with app shortcuts on your home screen. However, this is a beta version, and I hope Microsoft implements some kind of minimal UX design that allows users to access it on top of other apps without having to jump to another screen all together or return once their query is complete. We hope that this will make it more effective. It was completed.
Still, if Copliot is here and you want to try it out as your default digital assistant, follow these steps.
