The Honor Pad 9 is not your standard Android tablet. It may look and feel the same, with the same wide aspect ratio display as most models, but looks can be deceiving. That’s because, thanks to his MagicOS in Android 13, Honor has created the most iPad-like experience I’ve seen on his Android slab.
Admittedly, the £299 price tag comes with some savings, including an underwhelming Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset, smaller speakers, and a more practical camera system than the Prime shooter. But these quickly fade into the background for three important reasons.
First, it has a beautiful, sleek, and lightweight design that distributes the weight evenly, so you can hold it in one hand without feeling any strain at all. Next, the 12.1-inch 2.5K Eye Protection display with 16:10 aspect ratio brings a colorful delight to your eyes. And finally, the battery life is long enough even if you are away from an outlet for any reason.
In my own experience, the smoothness and overall experience of the software is mostly 10th generation iPad — especially impressive considering you’ll be paying £200 less for the perk. If you’re willing to give up the extra power and nearly infinitely large app library found in the iPadOS app store, Honor has a good chance of being an iPad killer here.
However, overcoming such a huge number of apps and games is difficult for any hardware, and as you can see, this is one of the main reasons why the Apple slab is at the top of the list. best tablet.
Admittedly, this is my favorite Android tablet in recent years. However, be sure to look for the app you want to use and see if it exists in tablet form in the Play Store.

Honor Pad 9: Up
Let’s look at it from above. The Honor Pad 9 has a lot of features, and as a content consumption device, it has the display, size, and stamina to make it a great tablet for watching and playing.
As smart as an iPad
The Honor Pad 9 is taller and wider, with an even larger 12.1-inch display on top of the iPad’s 10.9-inch panel. But most importantly for the comfort of use, it’s just as thin and only slightly heavier. Translated into a real-world situation, this means you won’t feel any of the typical wrist strain that occurs when supporting the weight of a heavy slab.
Tablet | size | weight |
---|---|---|
honor pad 9 | 10.9 x 7.1 x 0.3 inches | 1.2 pounds |
iPad (10th generation) | 9.8 x 7.1 x 0.3 inches | 1.1 pounds |
And none of this is because they rely on cheap materials that are usually lightweight. The sleek, utilitarian aesthetic uses a combination of aluminum and glass to maintain perfect symmetry from every angle, exuding a striking premium look and feel.
eye candy
Next, we turn our attention to the most important part of a content consumption device: the display. At 12.1 inches, this 16:10 aspect ratio is perfect for this kind of tablet UI while also providing a widescreen form factor that’s good enough for watching movies and TV shows.
Tablet | Display size/resolution | Brightness (knit) |
---|---|---|
honor pad 9 | 12.1 inches, 2560 x 1600 pixels | 500 nits |
iPad (10th generation) | 10.9 inches, 2360 x 1640 pixels | 500 nits |
I can see that you probably panicked a little when you saw the IPS LCD specs. It’s usually difficult to extract large amounts of color from IPS technology, and the price of this tablet may further raise doubts about its quality. However, these doubts are quickly dispelled by the visual feast provided by the buttery smooth 120Hz refresh rate.
Watch Partner’s Latest Love, Kid Cudi’s Gorgeous Animated Love Story enter galacticshows how well the 2560×1600 pixel resolution handles the intricate details of any scene, and its colors and contrast nail the flash flood of vibrancy that hits the screen every minute.
MagicOS is… well… pretty magical.
One of the most common complaints about Android tablets is the user interface (UI). Sure, companies have come up with effective workarounds, but in my opinion, none have matched the smooth, user-friendly experience of MagicOS. android 13. Oh, and it also comes with Google services.
A simple three-finger gesture allows you to go directly into multitasking mode (including running two instances of the same app) very easily. Switching between apps by swiping up from the bottom is very fast and fluid. When you use Honor Connect to connect different devices on the cloud, you get close to the Apple Continuity level of “just working” in a pristine state.
Although we cannot guarantee how many years this device will be updated (not confirmed by Honor), we can safely say that in its current form, this tablet is a lot of fun to operate.
stamina champion
Under the hood is an 8,300mAh battery with some great features. On paper, Honor promises 11 hours of “online video streaming” for him, but in my experience it hit pad 9 and then some at 11:26. A wide range of tasks like productivity and gaming will see you fall below the 10-hour mark, but this is iPad territory in terms of longevity.
What’s more, even if the charge runs out, Honor’s tablet supports up to 35W fast charging, allowing you to charge it to 100% in just over 20 minutes.
Honor Pad 9: Downs
But while there’s plenty to praise about the software’s UI, battery life, and display, there are also some major drawbacks. Let me explain.
speaker is quite small
Honor is singing and dancing a lot about the speaker system, so why isn’t the team taking a victory lap? Pad 9’s outer edge is surrounded by eight speakers to provide surround sound. are strategically located and Hi-Res audio certified to deliver crisp audio.
But in reality, it’s very clear to discern the individual highs and mids among the orchestral multi-track composition, although there’s certainly a real harshness to the sound here. I know bass is usually a little light on tablets, but this one was even heavier than what I’ve experienced with other competing slabs.
Of course, this can be easily fixed with the next pair. best bluetooth headphones (Because there is no 3.5mm headphone jack). But in social listening moments like scrolling through TikTok, I really miss that hint of bass.
camera = potato
To be honest, you probably won’t be using your tablet as a camera. Having a smartphone in your pocket will help you take much better photos. However, if you want to make a quick video call or only have the Honor Pad 9, the picture quality is a little basic.
The 8MP front-facing sensor is good enough for the occasional WhatsApp video chat, but we detect a lot of noise in the dark corners of the image. The 13MP main snapper roundback, on the other hand, produces images with less noise, but with blurred details and a lack of color detail.
Raw Horsepower Isn’t Enough
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is sufficient for basic productivity needs and casual gaming. Most importantly, Honor Pad 9’s superpower is that it’s powerful enough to run high-quality movie and TV experience.
However, I started to put a bit more stress on the chipset (combined with 8GB RAM), multitasking a few CPU-intensive apps like Adobe Lightroom and Sketchbook, and opening multiple Chrome tabs. Then you can start to feel the feel of the pad. 9 begins to bend under pressure.
Tablet | Geekbench 6 (single core) | Geekbench 6 (multicore) |
---|---|---|
honor pad 9 | 946 | 2,521 |
iPad (10th generation) | 1,580 | 4,400 |
This is understandable in the realm of the Android tablet market. Honor chose his Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 for the entry level. It also comes with a built-in AI engine (similar to Meteor Lake’s NPU) that handles many of these tasks. future (when they appear).
But looking at the facts, this 9th generation iPadhere we see Apple and Android tablets operating on different battlefields.
Honor Pad 9: Verdict
Unfortunately, this is just a symptom of the iPad vs. Android tablet battle. That means the battle is already somewhat over. Don’t get me wrong. You can get a lot of benefits from this particular Android slab.
The Honor Pad 9 is a binge drinker’s dream tablet, and MagicOS goes some way towards delivering a very clean iPad-like experience with the customization and freedom of Android 13. I am.
But aside from my complaints with its performance and speakers, there is one unavoidable issue. Well, it’s not an iPad. You don’t get hundreds of thousands of apps built specifically for iPadOS, and you don’t get Apple’s dense creative suite like iMovie.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t buy the Honor Pad 9. The score I gave it is a clear indication that it should be at least considered. But before you choose this great Android tablet, make sure you know what compromises you’re making.
