Lifestyle Brief | Grunge Flea Market – Times Standard

Free Market

Humboldt Grange No. 501 will hold a flea market on Saturday, March 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Grange Hall, 5845 Humboldt Hill Road, Eureka. The venue will be filled with over 20 exhibitors.

There is still space available for stalls. The indoor space has 8-foot tables available for $25. Weather permitting, a 10-by-10-foot space is available outside for $15. Admission to the flea market is free and the public is welcome. The kitchen is open for lunch.

marsh tour

Friends of the Arcata Marsh is sponsoring a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, March 2nd.

Meet leader Katie Allen in the lobby of the Interpretive Center on South G Street at 2 p.m. for a 90-minute walk, rain or shine, focused on the wetland’s flora, history, and ecosystem. For more information, call 707-826-2359.

grunge pancake

Freshwater Grange is inviting local residents to a classic pancake breakfast on March 3 from 8am to 11am at Grange Hall, 48 Grange Road, Freshwater.

The menu includes buttermilk and whole-wheat pancakes, ham, sausage, scrambled eggs, apple compote, orange juice, tea, and French roast coffee. Top the eggs with homemade salsa and cheese. The cost is $10 for adults and $7 for children.

ready to groove

Alpha Rhythm Kings will perform at the Historic Eagle House on the corner of Second and C Streets in Eureka on March 7th from 7 to 10 p.m.

On their first trip to Humboldt County, Rob Dellinger and the Alpha Rhythm Kings, fresh off gigs in New York City and Las Vegas, will perform swing, jump blues, vintage lounge and boogie woogie tunes.

Encounter of weavers

The Humboldt Hand Textile Spinning Association will meet on March 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Bay Room of the Wharfinger Building, 1 Marina Way in Eureka.

Ann Brezina will give a talk entitled “Living the Textile Lifestyle” and will include a discussion on spinning and textile production.Light refreshments will be served starting at 6:45 p.m.

The meeting is free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring a spinning wheel and current project. For more information, please visit www.hhsguild.org.

About hip hop

Cal Poly Humboldt’s 11th annual “Hip-Hop Conference: Power to the People” is scheduled for April 23-25.

This event is sponsored by the Critical Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department. Chuck D. of Public Enemy will be the keynote speaker. There will also be panelists, student speakers, food, music, dancing and more.

The time is April 23rd from 5:30pm to 8:00pm (keynote speaker night). April 24th from 4pm to 8pm and April 25th from 5pm to 9pm. Admission is free. For more information, please email crgs@humboldt.edu or call 707-826-4329.
