Residents were provided with opportunities to participate in activities based on science, innovation, technology and indigenous knowledge.
THUNDER BAY – This weekend, residents enjoyed an event celebrating and highlighting science at Intercity Shopping Center.
12th The annual Science Festival, hosted by Science North, concluded a week of events, exhibits and activities with a science carnival on Saturday.
“When we started, we were doing Science of Sound with the Tamarack Quintet. We did a Snow Day event with the City of Thunder Bay. We had the Youth Climate Action Summit this week.” said Monica Prodanik, a science, technology, engineering and mathematics specialist with Science North Thunder Bay.
“We’ll have a geeky night at Sleeping Giant Brewery and then wrap up the week with our big event: Science Carnival.”
The carnival featured hands-on presentations from more than 30 exhibitors and an opportunity for families to participate in activities based on science, innovation, technology and indigenous knowledge.
Visitors were also treated to a science show hosted by Science North, where they saw demonstrations on a variety of topics, including how the human body works.
Prodanik said there is something for everyone.
“We have a lot of young people coming, but it’s also people of all ages. Of course kids love to get out and have a good time, but it’s also for everyone. ” she said.
I’m so happy that there are older people who say, “Science is not for me at all, but what do you think?” They come to these events and realize that everything is science. We love to involve children in all of our activities, games and experiments. ”
