Scanning text is a valuable addition to Gboard, especially for individuals who frequently use services like Google Lens to scan text via their phone’s camera. Activating Scan Text turns the bottom area of the screen into a viewfinder and uses the shutter key to capture images. Users can tap the screen to copy part or all of the text, put in Click the button and paste it into the text field.
Samsung keyboards have offered the same text scanning feature since One UI 5, so it’s worth remembering that Google isn’t the first to introduce this particular feature to keyboards. Nevertheless, Gboard users will appreciate the inclusion of text scanning functionality. You’ll have to go back and forth between different apps, like Google Lens, to scan images with text.
