Naperville North Science Bowl team advances to national competition

Naperville District School District 203 on Tuesday recognized members of the Naperville North High School Science Bowl team that won its eighth straight state championship earlier this month.

The team consists of Andrew Tang, Yikai Liu, Claire Chen, Michelle Xiang, and Adi Bawiskar.

Naperville North defeated teams from William Fremd High School, Stevenson High School, Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, and Naperville District 204’s Neuqua Valley High School for the state championship and a chance to compete in the National Science Bowl, which is held nationwide in Washington, D.C. D203, increasing wages for substitute teachers for the 2024-25 school year.

Naperville District School Board 203 increased pay rates for substitute teachers at its meeting last week.

Starting in the 2024-25 school year, the fee will increase from $125 per day to $130 per day to ensure districts have substitutes available if schools need them.

Board member Amanda McMillen said she would like to revisit the issue in the next few months of the new school year to see if the increase has an impact on filling vacancies.

“I really want to get evaluated and look at this very carefully,” she said.

Bob Ross, D203’s chief human resources officer, said the board is open to changes that may be needed midway through the school year to increase the district’s fill rate. One of the board’s previous mid-year initiatives was to increase pay for retired teachers.

“We have a better sub-lineup than before, the best we’ve had in years,” he said. “We’re still not where we want to be. We want to be able to deliver excellent, high-quality subclasses every time without having to ask existing teachers to leave their lunch periods or planning periods to cover lessons.” I think it’s still happening too much, but it’s better and better than it was before.”

Other pay increases approved Tuesday include $1 per hour increases for railroad crossing guards, seasonal janitors, summer print shop helpers and the district’s student employees, as the district responds to the state’s minimum wage increase. It is.

All raises will cost approximately $139,615, according to district documents.
