Apple releases advice on rice, says it’s not the way to dry a wet iPhone

Many people, myself included, have had to face the dire situation of getting their phones wet. My experience happened during the Songkran festival in Thailand. If you’ve ever experienced it, you’ll get wet. It’s very damp. Water got into my phone pouch which was supposed to be sealed, but I actually used rice to dry it. Turns out that’s not the best bet, at least according to Apple’s support documentation.

Apple released the official recommendation The following users discovered the topic of drying your mobile phone mac world (via guardian). This advisory describes what to do and what not to do if your phone gets wet. It says, “Do not put your iPhone inside a rice bag.” Then, the small rice grains may damage your iPhone. ”

I don’t actually own an iPhone, but it’s safe to say that dipping your iPhone in rice is something many people have done over the years. I haven’t paid much attention to this issue before, but I’ve always thought that the rice soaking method was a surefire way to absorb water from electronic devices. Have I fallen into an unproven urban legend?

Apparently so. To be honest, I never thought that small pieces of rice could end up in every nook and cranny of my phone.

The iPhone actually has a decent liquid detection feature that tells it not to connect the cable if it detects moisture. A short circuit is the worst thing to happen, but it can also corrode the pins, turning your phone into an expensive doorstop.

There’s no danger that the iPhone is too expensive anyway. Oops. I just did it. Yes, I’m her Android fan.

The general advice for drying your phone is to place it with the connector facing down to allow excess liquid to drain while allowing natural airflow over the phone. The same advice applies to any phone or electrical device. Apple wisely recommends that you don’t expose your phone to direct heat or compressed air, or anything like cotton swabs or paper towels.

iPhone 12 and later models, like many modern phones, are made to be water resistant. Some survive even when completely submerged in water. However, leave the rice in the bag when drying it later.

Now, if you drop your phone in the toilet, you won’t have to worry about it. I’m looking for a new mobile phone.
