The student art showcase will be held Friday in Marysville as part of this month’s “Fourth Friday at the Burrows” event. Fourth Fridays is a new program series aimed at highlighting Sutter Arts & Culture’s Marysville campus, which includes art galleries, courtyards, and a theater known as the River Rose Center for the Arts.
This student showcase is presented by the Yuba Environmental Science (YES) Charter Academy and features more than 150 diverse and engaging pieces of work. This year is the first time that Yuba Academy of Environmental Sciences has implemented a school-wide art program. Organizers are impressed with the body of work these students were able to produce and are excited to share their results with the public.
“It is an honor and a joy to have the opportunity to create art with my students as our curriculum focuses on nature and environmental science,” said YES art teacher Alison Reininger. . “I have been very impressed with the observational skills, creativity and insight that YES students have shown in their work this year. I am extremely proud of everything we have achieved so far and look forward to the future. I’m excited for good things to happen.”
Providing youth with opportunities to connect with nature is integral to YES Charter Academy’s mission and philosophy. Friday’s art show serves to exemplify how art can be utilized as a teaching tool for a variety of subjects, including math and science. Grades TK through 8 are represented in the show through drawings, paintings, sculptures, and recycled mixed media.
As always, this art reception is free and open to the public. Also includes music, food and drinks. A reception will be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Burrows Center, 624 E St., Marysville.
