Apple’s affordable iPhone SE 4 could get a major upgrade from previous models: an OLED display. Rumor has it that it will have a display similar to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 panels. This begs the question, will the iPhone SE finally get a redesign?
Here’s what we know so far:
iPhone SE 4 is rumored to have an OLED display
according to Report from The Elec, Apple’s next iPhone SE is rumored to be equipped with an OLED display. The rumors stem from price proposals from three potential panel suppliers: Samsung Display, Tianma, and BOE.
Apple has yet to confirm the iPhone SE 4’s display specs, but as expected with Apple’s lower-priced lineup, the OLED panel is likely to be of lower quality than the iPhone 15’s display. However, this is still a significant upgrade over the iPhone SE.
The 2020 and 2022 models both had LCD displays, but these can’t compete with OLEDs. Moreover, in the same price range there are already other phones with OLED displays. google pixel 7a. So it makes sense that Apple would want to update the SE’s screen to keep it competitive with competing budget phones.

A report from The Elec highlights a possible 2025 release date for the iPhone SE 4. Therefore, it is still a little early to speculate about the design of the new model. But the upgraded screen makes us wonder if Apple will finally do away with the outdated iPhone 8 form factor.
Apple tends to trickle in technology improvements and design updates to its budget lineup one or two generations after its flagship device. The iPhone SE is currently one of the only mainstream smartphones to feature a home button. Even on the lower end of the market, it’s hard to ignore the thick bezels on the top and bottom. There are several reasons why it might make sense for Apple to eventually move away from this design with his 2025 iPhone SE.
Keeping the bezels but tagging the OLED display seems like a strange move, especially if Apple plans to reuse the screen design of previous flagship iPhones.
Additionally, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported in November 2023 that Apple: Plans to discontinue 9th generation iPad this year. It’s a lower-priced model that still has bezels and a home button like the current iPhone SE. If this rumor is true, it would make sense for Apple to ditch the bezel and home button designs on budget phones at the same time.
We won’t know until Apple officially announces the iPhone SE4. Stay tuned for more news and rumors about the next iPhone SE and future Apple releases.
