Nagpur: Six months after being elected treasurer of Badminton Association of India (BAI), Arun Lakhani was re-elected as president of Badminton Association of India (MBA) in a high-profile election held in the city on Sunday. It was done.
The Lakhani-led committee defeated Pradeep Gandhi’s committee by a landslide. Apart from the Congress Secretariat post, not a single one of the 25 posts submitted for voting was in Gandhi’s kitty.
Mr. Lakhani, known for his organizational skills and connections, received 37 votes out of 52, beating Mr. Gandhi, a former international shuttler. Lakhani was elected to a further four-year term after being supported by a majority of the 35 member constituencies.
Although he won the president’s post easily, the vice-president election turned out to be interesting, with Akshay Dewarkar (27 votes) defeating Manglish Palekar of the Gandhi Committee by just two votes.
The only success Gandhi enjoyed that day was Ashish Vajpayee’s victory over Mayur Gutnekar by one vote (26 votes) for the post of Congress secretary general.
Pankaj Thakur, former vice-president of the Mumbai Cricket Association, will be one of the six incoming MBA vice-presidents.
