Fung said he obtained the photo from a man named G. Locke, a former gang member who was in prison with Bankman Freed.
“According to G-Lock, these photos were taken on December 17, 2023. Apparently inmates are only allowed to take photos on Christmas and Father’s Day,” Fung said Monday. said in a video post to X.
Fong said the other inmates’ faces were hidden for privacy reasons. In her photo, a man she identified as “G-Roc” can be seen standing next to a disheveled-looking person believed to be Bankman Freed.
“I heard he’s obviously lost weight and he’s not showering as much. He’s not as clean shaven as he used to be,” Fong said in the video. “But he’s obviously going through a lot right now.”
Bankman Freed representative BI declined to comment on Fong’s photo when asked for comment.
Bankman Freed has been incarcerated at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center since August. He was initially placed under house arrest, but the case was remanded after U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan said there was probable cause to believe he had attempted to “tamper with a witness.”
Brooklyn Jail is notorious for its poor living conditions, with one former warden calling it “the most problematic facility in prison.”
In addition to struggling with sanitary standards in prison, Bankman Freed has had to find ways to pass the time without the internet, as inmates are only allowed radios or MP3 players. .
In November, a jury convicted Bankman Fried of seven counts of fraud and conspiracy in a criminal trial in Manhattan federal court.
Bankman Fried, once known as the golden boy of the cryptocurrency world, could face up to 110 years in prison for the crime. His sentence is scheduled to be handed down on March 28th.
Representatives for Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment outside of regular business hours.
