Here’s how AI message summaries work in Android Auto –

Google announced an overview of Android Auto’s assistant AI in conjunction with the launch of the Galaxy S24 series. This feature uses Google Assistant to automatically summarize long messages and group chats while you’re driving, without having to reach for your phone.

In its support documentation, Google detailed how to use Google Assistant to summarize messages in Android Auto. Before you jump, Google notes that this feature isn’t available on all devices, regions, countries, or languages.

“Artificial intelligence generates message summaries, so there may be mistakes. You can turn this off at any time in Android Auto settings,” Google notes. Additionally, it says, “The assistant does not log messages or summaries, and interactions are not used to train large-scale language models (LLMs).”

Additionally, the document states that messages longer than 40 words meet the requirements for an AI-generated summary. If you have just one long message or multiple messages from the same sender or group,[声に出して再生]Tap to automatically summarize your message.
Otherwise, the Assistant reads the message without summarizing it. If you have multiple conversations from different senders or apps, your Assistant will read them separately.

How to opt in to the Android Auto assistant overview

The first time a user receives such a message, the assistant plays an approval request to summarize. User must agree “Yes” to play the synopsis. Users can also manually opt-in to Assistant Overview in Android Auto. Android Auto Settings > Notifications > Play AI Messages Overview.

If the Assistant’s request to play a summary message is denied, the feature will be automatically disabled and the user will need to re-enable the feature in their phone and Android Auto settings.
