In a demonstration of excellence at the highest level of biathlon, Justine Breza-Boucher and Johannes Thingnes Boe won the final mass start of the 2024 BMW IBU World Championship in Mesto in November. At this tournament he achieved the best result, with over 210,000 spectators visiting the Vysočina Arena. An unforgettable championship.

JT Boe wins 7 consecutive medals at World Championships

JT Boe won seven medals at Nove Mesto, becoming the first athlete to medal twice at the BMW IBY World Championships. He also won three individual events in a row, tying Ole Einar Bjorndalen’s 20 gold medals at the world championships. Believe it or not, JT Bo’s pursuit victory marked the first title defense of his career for one of the greatest biathletes of all time.

France the most successful country with 13 medals

Julia Simon, Justine Breza-Boucher and Lou Giammonono won all the medals in the sprint at the BMW IBU World Championship, marking Les Bleus’ first ever podium. Sophie Chauveau’s fourth place added another dimension to this feat. Simone and Blaisa Boucher won five medals each at Nove Mesto, making Simone the most successful French woman in the history of the World Championships.

France’s women’s relay team won gold at the world championships for the first time in 32 years. Quentin Fillon Mayet teamed up with Jeanmono to win gold in her first World Cup or World Championship level single mixed relay appearance. France finished the World Championships as the country with the most medals, winning 13 medals (12 vs. Norway) and 6 gold medals (4 vs. Norway).

Vitozzi scores 69/70 and wins 3 individual medals

After winning one bronze and two medals at the BMW IBU World Championships (including a silver medal in Nove Mesto Pursuit), Lisa Vitozzi won her first individual gold medal at the World Championships. She left Nove Mesto with three individual medals and a total of four medals after scoring 69/70 in four individual events.

Sweden’s men’s relay team wins its first ever gold medal at the world championships. It was also Sweden’s first men’s relay gold medal at a major event after the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics.

Andrejs Rastorgujievs won his first medal at the BMW IBU World Championships with second place in the mass start.
