Android version of Chrome may add desktop version of ‘Tab Groups’ feature

If you’re a fan of Chrome’s existing tab organizer on the desktop, you’ll be happy to know that the mobile version may also find its way to a very useful tool. According to a recent update in the experimental Chrome Canary version 124, Android is coming to the ability to create tab groups even if there is only one tab to begin with. Desktop Chrome, on the other hand, has allowed single tab groups for some time. This feature is new to the Android experience.discoverer @Leopeva64 of X, the feature first appeared in early builds of the mobile browser in January, but was grayed out and unavailable at the time. However, in this latest version of Chrome Android Canary, the feature appears to be fully functional by enabling the experimental #android-tab-group-stable-ids flag.

As mentioned in X’s post above, this feature is available by tapping the three-dot menu,[タブの選択]select the tab you want to group, and[タブのグループ化]It works by selecting . From there, you can add more tabs, rename the group, rearrange tabs within the group, and use all common tab group features.

It’s important to note that this is still in its very early stages, considering that it currently only works in Chrome Canary and also requires the use of flags. Chrome Canary is primarily meant to be used by developers to test new features, and adding experimental flags to the mix makes the browser even more unstable. It should go without saying, but I’ll say it anyway: this is not recommended for normal use.

However, Chrome Canary is a very good way to get a glimpse of what Google is working on for its browser, even if the experience isn’t as polished. The fact that this setting has been available since the beginning of this year and is still under development is a good sign that this will be a stable version within a few months.
