Ben Duong broke the previous record by more than three minutes.
AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin man is a new world record holder.
Ben Duong, 24, crossed the finish line at the Austin Marathon on Sunday in a time of 1 hour, 21 minutes, 38 seconds. This was impressive, but not as good as breaking his previous world record.
Duong became the fastest person in history to complete a half marathon while dribbling a ball, setting a new record recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records. Duong broke the previous record of 1 hour and 25 minutes.
Duong sponsored the San Antonio Spurs in hopes of breaking records. After accomplishing this feat of his, he shared his feelings with KVUE’s media partners at the Austin American-Statesman.
“It doesn’t seem real. I honestly can’t believe it. I’m shaking,” Duong told the Statesman after the race. “We’re here. We got here. I couldn’t have done this without all my family, all my friends, everyone who supported me.”

To break this record, Duong had to dribble the entire time he ran, which he did. Duong was not allowed to pick up the ball while running, and if he had lost the ball while running, he would have had to run back to where he lost it and retrieve the dribble.
Duong is a graduate of McNeil High School and ran track and cross country while in school. He also ran track and cross country while pursuing his bachelor’s degree at Dallas Baptist University. He is currently pursuing his MBA at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
