Jimmy Buffett is seen strumming a six-string on the new season of “Life & Beth.” Hulu’s slice-of-life comedy is loosely based on star and creator Amy Schumer’s life and features the carefree chorus king in his second of 10 season episodes. (currently streaming).
Buffett died in September at the age of 76 after a four-year battle with Merkel cell skin cancer. In a cameo on “Life & Beth,” filmed in New Orleans, the “Margaritaville” singer returned to her humble beginnings busking on the streets of her favorite city, the Big Easy.
In a 2018 interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” Buffett said he owes his career to New Orleans. “The last few years I’ve been here have been really formative for me,” Buffett said. “I thought I could make the leap because it made me a better professional player. This was my training ground for all of that.”
Schumer said he grew up listening to Buffett’s music. “When I listened to music, I felt like everything was going to be okay.” The comedian struck up a friendship with Buffett, his wife Jane Slugsvoll, and his daughter Sarah “Delaney” Buffett about five years ago.

“We were hanging out and I said, ‘We’re filming in New Orleans,'” Schumer recalled, sitting next to Michael Cera, her on-screen love interest in the series. There is. “I said, ‘Oh my God, imagine you were on the show.’ He said, ‘I would do it!’ I thought, “No, he’s just saying that.” But he remained unwavering. ”
Buffett played an acoustic guitar in khaki pants and sang “I Will Play for Gumbo,” a song from his 1999 album Beach House on the Moon, while Beth performed. Schumer said Buffett piloted the role.
“He used to fly around on his own,” Serra said. “Incredible lifestyle.”
Serra recalls that there was a crowd forming across the street during filming. “I don’t think they even knew it was Jimmy Buffett. I think they were just having fun,” Schumer said.
Buffett “was just contagious,” she added. “And I’m really happy that at the end of his life we have this footage of him going back to his roots and singing, and his family is really happy too.”
John and Beth travel to New Orleans and are tied in marriage in an intimate, casually planned ceremony. Beth told a friend: “I’m going to a destination wedding in the middle of the weekend, and it’s a last-minute wedding, and no one is planning on attending.” It’s the same easy-going approach Schumer used when planning her wedding to chef Chris Fischer in 2018.
“It was in Malibu for no reason. I’m very much a New Yorker,” Schumer says. “I was working press there and we planned it in three days. We got married in Malibu on a Tuesday. All of our friends and family are in New York, but no one wanted to… I thought, “He won’t come.” In the end, there were 75 people. ”
When Sera asked if Schumer and his guests had taken over a hotel to accommodate the occasion, Schumer said they had rented a floating house for two nights, presumably on the set of ABC’s “The Bachelor.”
“I don’t know,” she says. “It was really, really stupid. But we had such a great time.”
While Schumer went for a more natural look on her wedding day, which included guests including Jennifer Lawrence and Chelsea Handler, Beth’s bridal beauty was inspired by Teresa Giudice. When the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star married businessman Luis Ruelas in 2022, she wore a crown and a towering updo that required more than 1,500 bobby pins and cost $10,000. Ta. “(Judith) was the reference photo, definitely because of the hair,” Schumer says, handing props to the hair stylist and makeup artist. “My son was really scared that day (laughs). But yeah, it was definitely a nod to Bravo.”
