Yet another report suggests iPhone 16 is built with AI in mind with surprise Neural Engine update

The Samsung-based company is leaning heavily into AI, and amid rumors swirling that iOS 18 will bring major upgrades to Siri via new AI tools, Apple could upgrade the internals of the iPhone to make it smarter. A second report this week hints at it.

Generative AI remains controversial in that it leverages existing assets to create something “new”, but a new report from Taiwan (thanks to GSMArena) suggests that the iPhone 16 will be “significantly” more It is suggested that it will be equipped with a new neural engine equipped with the core of.

Although the report does not specify the number of cores, the Neural Engine has been equipped with 12 cores since the iPhone 12 released in 2020.

It also confirms recent reports that the iPhone 16 and other Apple devices will feature new chips such as the A18 and M4, with a new focus on more powerful neural engines.

What does that mean for consumers?

The Apple Neural Engine (ANE) is a much more efficient processor than a CPU or GPU and uses AI for things like language processing and image analysis on your device.

This may be an oversimplification, but the neural engine can do things like search for “dog” in your photo library to find all the images of your furry friend, unlock Face ID, and expand Animoji. It’s a skill we should be grateful for. Reality and deep fusion techniques employed within the image processing pipeline.

The included cores are so efficient that they can remain relatively cool even when processing complex data and calculations on command or in the background.

If these reports about additional cores are correct, there is no doubt that Apple’s AI potential will further increase. In addition to making Siri significantly more useful, iOS 18 is also expected to improve Spotlight.

It’s worth noting that while Apple reportedly has its own team working on AI-based language models, it doesn’t fully trust competitors’ generation options. In fact, the company has banned the use of things like ChatGPT for fear that its algorithms will learn trade secrets.
