Four students were injured Wednesday when someone opened fire from a car at an Atlanta high school.
The victims were hospitalized and treated for non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in the parking lot of the Benjamin E. Mays High School campus, according to NBC News and FOX5. The Atlanta Public Schools District said the shooting occurred shortly after school was dismissed.
The school district said in a statement sent to media outlets that “no other students, faculty or staff were injured.” “The safety and security of our students, faculty and staff is our top priority.”
No arrests have been made.
The district has not provided a description of the shooter’s vehicle and the incident remains under investigation, NBC reported. All school-related events were canceled after the shooting.
The Atlanta Police Department told USA TODAY that the district’s own police department is the lead agency investigating the shooting. The Atlanta Public Schools Police Department declined to comment on the shooting.

The Atlanta incident comes on the heels of two other mass shootings in the United States on Wednesday, including one at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade.

At least four law enforcement officers were injured in Washington, D.C., three of them in gunfire by a suspect who had a warrant out for animal cruelty. Metropolitan Police Department Commissioner Pamela Smith said police are investigating whether officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect.
Wednesday marks the sixth anniversary of the massacre in which a gunman killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
