USA TODAY has announced its 2024 Restaurant of the Year list. Among the 47 best spots in the country, Alpine Village, one of Palm Desert’s classics, was chosen with distinction.
Alpine Village is a restaurant that deserves attention for its family-run business and delicious European cuisine. But this list also got us thinking about other great eateries that deserve national accolades.
The Desert Sun has rounded up eight other restaurants that offer great food and a great time. From French and Vietnamese sandwiches to Mexican classics and juicy burgers, here are some Coachella Valley favorites that should have added Alpine Village to USA TODAY’s list of America’s Best Restaurants.
Catalan Mediterranean restaurant

70-026 Highway 111, Rancho Mirage. https://catalunyarestaurant.com
This trendy Rancho Mirage spot specializes in Western Mediterranean cuisine from Spain, France, and Italy, including tapas, octopus carpaccio, and paella. This restaurant is perfect for a date night. The interior has a very romantic atmosphere with dim lighting and a tree wrapped in twinkling lights. It’s also a great place for large groups to gather and celebrate.
farm

6 La Plaza, Palm Springs; https://farmpalmsprings.com
While some may be put off by the limited menu choices, it’s one of the best things about The Farm in Palm Springs. This hidden downtown restaurant offers an ever-changing prix-fixe dinner menu inspired by the world and featuring seasonal ingredients (reservations highly recommended). Farm also offers a more “traditional” restaurant experience (walk-ins are also available) during breakfast and lunch. Another draw to this spot is its cozy outdoor seating, filled with greenery and twinkling lights.
grill a burger

73-091 Country Club Drive, Palm Desert; www.grill-a-burger.com
Many people claim to have the best burgers, and Grill-A-Burger has over 30 delicious and very unique burgers on its menu. If you’re a big fan of Lady Gaga, try the Gagapalooza, made with imported Italian ham, buttery provolone cheese, and homemade pesto mayonnaise on sourdough bread. Those interested in specific ingredients can look for creative concoctions topped with avocado, mushrooms, blue cheese, and flame-roasted green chiles, among others. Tuscany, Buddha, and Devils are his three options for revenge, too, and caught the attention of “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives” host Guy Fieri. This spot also offers chicken sandwiches, turkey burgers, salmon, salads, and other options for those looking for something other than burgers.
L’Atelier Cafe Palm Springs

129 La Plaza, Palm Springs; www.instagram.com/lateliercafep
L’Atelier Café in Palm Springs is just a short drive away for French cuisine. Start your day with the classic Quiche Lorraine with ham and Gruyère, or a variety of crepes such as lemon sugar, strawberry and salted caramel. For lunch, enjoy sandwiches and paninis like the Nutella Panini. No trip to L’Atelier Café would be complete without stocking up on a variety of pastries, including macarons, croissants, and beignets.
La Quinta Cliffhouse Bar & Grill
78-250 Highway 111, La Quinta; www.laquintacliffhouse.com
Built into an actual desert rock formation, there’s nothing more distinctive than the dining experience offered at this Coachella Valley flagship. Enjoy traditional entrees such as steak and frites, braised short ribs, and cioppino while admiring the on-site waterfall and enjoying stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Come early and enjoy discounted drinks during happy hour.
tack room bar

81-800 51st Ave., Indio; tackroomtavern.com
Located on the grounds of the Empire Polo Club, this rustic tavern is the closest place to eat to the Coachella stage without having to buy tickets to the festival. While its proximity to such a sacred musical venue is sure to draw customers, Tuck’s room is more about celebrating the institution’s actual polo roots. Saddles and other horse memorabilia line the walls, and the menu focuses on hearty American classics like steak, salmon and ribs. Breakfast is also served daily from 8:30am to 11am.

La Baguette Vietnamese Sandwich
34-580 Monterey Avenue, Suite 106, Palm Desert; labaguettesandwich.com
A suburban strip mall on the northern edge of Palm Desert seems like a surprising place to find the best banh mi in the desert. But that’s just what you’ll find at this unassuming counter, which also serves spring rolls, rice, vermicelli bowls, and an assortment of other Vietnamese dishes more commonly found in desert’s more formal locations. Don’t miss the milk tea.

Delicias Mexican Cuisine
66-121 Pierson Blvd., Desert Hot Springs; ilovedeliciasmexicancuisine.com
This vibrant new Mexican spot brought plenty of color and desert vibes when it recently opened near Desert Hot Springs’ western gateway. The extensive menu includes classics like street tacos, tamales, and tortas, as well as seafood dishes like ceviche, aguachile (a savory shrimp dish), and molcajete (grilled seafood and meat). There is also live music on Friday nights.
