TL;DR
- With the release of Lineage OS 21, Lineage OS has been updated to Android 14.
- Lineage OS 21 introduces a new gallery app called Glimpse and improves the look and functionality of several other stock apps.
- Custom ROM builds with new updates are available for hundreds of devices.
Android custom ROMs are very useful when supporting devices that are no longer supported by the mobile phone OEM. One of the most popular custom ROMs is Lineage OS, which is installed on a variety of Android devices. Android 14 is here and everything is settled, so it’s time for Lineage OS to get the platform. The new Lineage OS 21 update brings you all that and more.
Lineage OS 21 is based on the latest Android 14 QPR 1 release and includes all security patches up to February 2024. So, install Lineage OS 21 on your supported phone and get the latest Android in no time.
While the platform update is a reason to celebrate in itself, the Lineage OS team has also made some improvements to the app. Lineage OS requires you to use the stock AOSP app or create an open source alternative. Their work is to be commended, as it is quite difficult for a group of volunteers to work on a custom ROM and even an app. Improved apps include:
- Aperture (camera app)
- calculator
- contact address
- dialer
- Eleven (music player)
- jelly (browser)
- LatinIME (keyboard)
- messaging
Another big highlight of this update is the new Glimpse app. This is now the default gallery app in Lineage OS 21. The focus of this app is to provide a clean, simple, and modern UI with all the basic features you would expect from a gallery app.

There are many other changes, so we recommend checking out the announcement for the complete changelog.
Lineage OS 21 builds are available on over 100 devices, and the team will also maintain Lineage OS 18.1 builds to continue supporting legacy devices.
Have you used a custom ROM such as Lineage OS recently?
