TL;DR

  • A new report from CIRP finds that fewer new iPhone owners in the U.S. are switching from Android to iOS.
  • The year-on-year decline was 2%, from 15% in 2022 to 13% in 2023.
  • Still, 13% of new iPhone owners in the US come from Android, which is a significant number.

In the never-ending saga of Android vs. iOS, there’s a clear winner here in the US, and it’s not Team Green. In 2022, the percentage of iPhone users in the United States will exceed 50% for the first time. This inevitably means that many Android users have jumped on board. Now, a new report says Android was able to stem the bleeding a bit last year.

In 2023, about 13% of new iPhone owners will have just left Android, according to a new report from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP). This is about 2% less than what CIRP predicted for 2022 (a whopping 15%). This was the highest percentage recorded in the past five years.

To be clear, this is do not have That means 15% of Android users in the US have switched to iPhone (which is an impressive number). This means that 13% of people who bought a new iPhone in 2023 did so from Android. An undisclosed majority had previously used an iPhone, but only a small minority had used a feature phone.

Check the chart below.

According to the graph, it is now down to the same level as in 2019. However, his switch in 2020 and his 2021 was only 11% both years, which was much better for Team Green.

Of course, the ideal scenario is that these numbers don’t exist and all Android users continue to use Android. But that seems increasingly like a pipe dream, as the US teen population overwhelmingly prefers iPhones, and the percentage of current iPhone users interested in switching to Android is so low. It seems to me. The best we can hope for now is for OEMs to keep as many Android users happy and stick around as possible.
