Temple Grandin is a distinguished professor of animal science at Colorado State University.
The campus community will be invited to a keynote address by Temple Grandin, an author and activist known for her advocacy for the humane treatment of farm animals and self-advocacy for autism rights and awareness. She will speak at the conclusion of the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing’s second annual Nursing Science Day on March 7 from 6 to 7 p.m.
Grandin is a distinguished professor of animal science at Colorado State University and has designed facilities for handling livestock that are used by companies around the world. She has played a key role in implementing animal welfare audit programs used by McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Whole Foods, and other companies.
Through appearances on national news programs such as 20/20 and 60 minutes, Grandin has shared her story and research with audiences around the world. She was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2016. time 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2010.
Multiple Nursing Science Day sessions will be held at Fayetteville Town Center from 12:30 to 7 p.m., and are free to attend, but registration is required. If you are interested, please register and select the sessions you would like to attend.
The theme of this year’s symposium is “The State of the Science of Animal-Assisted Therapy: Implications for Research, Education, and Practice Across the Healthcare Continuum.”
In addition to Grandin’s talk, speakers including U of A nursing professors Alison Scott and Michelle Kilmer, Auburn University associate professor Morgan Yordy, and paws4people executive director Kiria Henry will discuss animal-assisted therapy. I’m planning to give a lecture.
