Kansas City Chiefs guard Nick Allegretti played in most of Super Bowl 58 with an injury.
Allegretti played all 79 snaps in Kansas City’s 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers despite suffering a torn UCL in the second quarter, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports. That’s what it means. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.
Allegretti underwent an MRI on Tuesday, which revealed a complete tear.
“Beastman! We told him we wanted him to go out and he didn’t miss a snap!” Chiefs quarterback and Super Bowl 58 MVP Patrick Mahomes posted on X.
The Chiefs entered the game with a thin guard and were in dire need of Allegretti. Allegretti started in Super Bowl 58 in place of injured All-Pro Joe Thuney, who was ruled out of the championship game with a chest injury.

If Allegretti was unable to return to the game, reserve guard Mike Caliendo would have been next in the team’s depth.
According to Pro Football Focus, Allegretti allowed seven pressures, one sack, and one quarterback hit on 79 total snaps. Mahomes was sacked three times and allowed seven hits in the win. On the ground, the Chiefs rushed for 130 yards and averaged 4.3 yards per carry.
The Chiefs will become the first NFL team to repeat the Super Bowl championship since the New England Patriots in 2003 and 2004.
The Chiefs selected Allegretti in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He won three Super Bowls, primarily as a reserve guard for Kansas City.
