The University System of Georgia’s Board of Governors today approved a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI) degree program at Kennesaw State University beginning in the fall 2024 semester.
Kennesaw State University is the only second school in Georgia to offer a master’s degree in AI, meeting the growing demand for professionals with expertise in artificial intelligence. The interdisciplinary MSAI will be located in the School of Computing and Software Engineering and will expand the existing Artificial Intelligence Concentration Facility in KSU’s School of Computer Science.
“At a time when technological advances are transforming business and industry at an unprecedented pace, we recognize the importance of artificial intelligence in shaping the readiness of our workforce,” KSU President and Academic Affairs Officer said Ivan Prinkala, Executive Vice President. “An MSAI degree not only gives students the skills and expertise they need to succeed in a variety of career fields, but also empowers them to be at the forefront of innovation and problem-solving.”
The Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence incorporates existing curricula and research strengths in computer science, data science, information technology, and software engineering. This interdisciplinary program prepares students for jobs such as AI application developers, ethics researchers, product managers, research scientists, solutions architects, and algorithm developers.
MSAI graduates will enter the field of artificial intelligence, which is expected to contribute up to $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030, according to the PricewaterhouseCoopers Global Artificial Intelligence Survey. Additionally, the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment of computer and information researchers, including AI specialists, will increase by 21% between 2021 and 2031. This is a much faster rate than the average of 5% for all occupations.
“Our master’s program focuses on hands-on learning and hands-on experience, ensuring our graduates are prepared to tackle real-world challenges in AI,” said Sumanth, Dean of the School of Computing and Software Engineering. Yenduri said. “By embracing the limitless possibilities of artificial intelligence, we will foster positive change across a variety of sectors while preparing our students to meet the needs of future industries.”
In addition to coursework and research opportunities, master’s students acquire AI knowledge through internships, co-op assignments, and capstone courses and projects. Her 30 credit hour MSAI program typically takes her a year and a half to complete for full-time students, but can be completed in one year (three semesters).
