YouTube is starting to test a redesign of the Cast experience that users find on its music platform.
As spotted by users on Reddit, YouTube Music is working on doing away with the old “Cast to Device” pop-up window and introducing a new submenu (via 9to5Google ). A new “Sheet” provides users with a selection of “recommended” devices to start casting music. Following that, there are a few more options under “Other devices,” which appears to include connected smart home devices with speakers.
The original poster included another screenshot showing YouTube Music’s new “Now Playing” screen, which is very minimalistic. All you’ll see during testing is the name of the device you’re casting to and a simple volume slider.

Meanwhile, other users also wondered where the “disconnect” button went and chimed in. YouTube Music doesn’t offer the new Now Playing screen. Further inspection reveals that the user must recast the music to the current device (mobile phone) to end the cast.
Most of the work appears to be ready, but testing may continue, so it’s unclear when Google will roll out these changes.
Casting on YouTube Music gained more attention last year when the platform tested changes to its mini player. This addition places the cast option next to the play button and disables the “skip” button.
The reason for eliminating the latter was to encourage the use of touch gestures on the device rather than cluttering it with digital buttons.
YouTube Music’s other experimental efforts include bringing generative AI to its songs. Through its “Music AI Incubator,” the platform hopes to leverage the power of Gen AI to help users overcome challenges posed by trademarks, copyright, spam, and other issues. YouTube Music has also launched a test that allows users in the US to experiment with generative playlist covers created by AI.
