Originally introduced for the web and Nest Hub Max, Google is now bringing its second screen “Companion Mode” to the Meet app on Android and iOS.
Companion mode is for users who join Meet calls through an in-room audio/video conferencing system rather than their own computer. If you are in a conference room or large meeting space/hall, you will have access to “interactive features and controls.”
- You can also use the room check-in feature on mobile to help other attendees see your name next to the rooms you’re in.
- Share your emoji reactions without interrupting the speaker.
- Raise your hand to indicate what you want to say.
- If you turn on captions, subtitles will appear when everyone is speaking during the meeting.
- Exchange chat messages with other meeting participants.
- You can view and expand the presented content and easily follow along with the presenter on your own device.
On mobile, Google positions companion mode as “joining meetings without opening your laptop.”On the pre-participation screen, a new[コンパニオン モードを使用]A button will appear.
This is especially useful in meeting spaces where laptop space is limited, or as an easy and discreet way to participate in large in-person meetings such as all-hands meetings or town halls.
Google Meet companion mode will roll out to Android and iOS in the coming weeks. Available for Workspace and personal Google Accounts.
