Android 11.3 has been released: How to download Google’s latest version

Android Auto may feel like a work in progress, but that’s not just because of the number of bugs that frequently crop up in the user experience behind the wheel. Google continues to release update after update and has confirmed its commitment to improving Android Auto in the long term.

The Android Auto beta program works its magic and provides more frequent updates, but the focus is almost exclusively on internal improvements.

This also applies to Android Auto 11.3, with the new version being rolled out without any substantial changes. This is a welcome update, even though it doesn’t include any new features. It’s focused on bug fixes and overall performance improvements, which is good news considering the number of glitches plaguing Android Auto lately.

Before you head to the Google Play Store to check for updates, you should know that Android Auto 11.3 began rolling out to production devices just a few minutes ago. Google has a controlled rollout approach that allows updates to production devices in stages, so new versions only appear in his Google Play Store on certain phones. We will continue to improve availability in the coming weeks until Android Auto 11.3 is rolled out to all users.

Meanwhile, Android users can install the latest Android Auto update by sideloading the APK file. The installer is on this page, so download the file and tap it on your device to start the update. Depending on your Android settings, you may need special permissions to install applications from sources other than the Google Play Store. By default, Android only allows apps from the Play Store, so you must enable manual installation support to sideload APK files.

Google is already testing some big improvements to Android Auto, but they aren’t tied to any specific version. As the search giant announced earlier this year, Android Auto will soon integrate AI to summarize long messages and busy conversations in group chats. Using artificial intelligence, Google Assistant reads your messages and creates summaries that provide important information.

Additionally, the Assistant provides relevant smart replies with actions. For example, if a contact requests an ETA to a destination, Google Assistant can suggest the option to share it using Google Maps. You can send an ETA to your contacts by tapping the on-screen option or using voice commands.

The option to summarize messages came out for some users a few weeks ago, but it doesn’t seem to have been fully implemented yet. Development of this feature is likely underway, with deployment expected to begin later this year.

As always, if you notice anything new in the latest Android Auto update, please share it with us and our readers using the comment box below.
