Google Messages, the default SMS and messaging app on most Android smartphones, has a lot of features you’ve never heard of. Although users prefer instant messaging apps like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, etc. to stay in touch with each other, SMS remains one of the easiest ways to contact someone as all you need is a phone number. From getting smart suggestions to scheduling messages, here are some lesser-known Google Messages features you can try in 2024.

If you live in India, most network operators allow users to send 100 SMS per day. However, the daily limit can be easily circumvented by enabling Google’s RCS (Rich Communication Services) protocol. Since it uses mobile data communication, it is also possible to send messages with more than 160 characters and react to messages.

To turn on RCS, open Google Messages on your Android device, tap your profile picture in the top right, then tap[メッセージ設定]Click. On the screen that appears, tap “RCS Chat” and enable the “Turn on RCS Chat” toggle. Here you can also turn on advanced features like ‘Send read receipts’ and ‘Show typing indicators’.

Apple also announced last year that it would adopt the RCS protocol. This means that iPhone users will soon be able to send text messages to their Android friends using iMessage-like features.

Send and receive texts from your PC or other devices

The web version of Google Messages may lack certain features compared to the Android version, but you can pair it with another device, such as a tablet, to send and receive messages remotely. You can also access your mobile phone messages using the web.

To pair your phone with another Android device, tap your profile picture and tap[デバイス ペアリング]Choose. You can start the pairing process by opening the Google Messages app on your other device or by visiting www.messages.google.com/web.

If you want to view or send messages from your PC, simply scan the QR code that appears in your browser using the QR code scanner button in the pairing section of your device. However, if you want to connect it to another device, such as a tablet, you’ll need to install the app on the other device and sign in using the same Google Account you use on your phone.

Schedule a message

Similar to email, Google Messages allows users to schedule messages to be sent at a date and time of their choosing. This may not be useful for many people, but for those who often forget to text messages, this feature can be a lifesaver.

To schedule an SMS or RCS message in Google Messages, open the chat you want to send the text to and enter your message in the text field. Once done, long press the Send button and you will see an option called “Schedule Send” as seen in the screenshot above. Here you can choose from several presets or choose a date and time to send the message.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where someone sends you a voice message but you can’t hear it? Google Messages has a very nifty feature that transcribes voice messages, allowing you to easily transcribe them. Easily read and reply to messages without playing them.

This feature is enabled by default on most mobile phones, so if you receive a voice message, it will appear above it.[トランスクリプトを表示]Get the text version at the tap of a button. If you don’t see this option,[メッセージ設定]Move to[音声メッセージの文字起こし]Go to[音声メッセージの文字起こしを表示]Turn on the toggle named .

If you have a phone with Android 11 or later, Google Messages lets you quickly see and reply to messages using bubbles. As a quick summary, Android bubbles were first introduced in Facebook Messenger and are now being adopted by some apps such as Google Messages.

It eliminates the need to open Google Messages, which is very useful if you’re doing something on your phone and don’t want to switch to another app. To enable bubbles for specific contacts or everyone, tap your profile picture, tap[メッセージ設定]Proceed to[バブル]Find and tap it. Here you can choose to show bubbles for selected conversations, for everyone, or to disable the feature completely.

Google Messages is frequently updated with new and useful features to help you save time and reduce screen time. A great example of this is the Suggestion feature, which provides users with presets that can be easily tapped and sent. This feature is located under “Suggestions” in “Message Settings”.

Here you can choose from three options: Smart Reply, Suggested Action, and Suggested Sticker. As the name suggests, the first tool lets you quickly send text replies to messages. Suggested Actions integrates with other Google services like Meet, Calendar, and Maps, so you can easily take certain actions like create an event, attach a recent photo, or share your location. .

The last one, named “Sticker Suggestions,” displays sticker reply options depending on what the user says. For example, if you say “Good luck,” an animated stamp will appear saying the same thing.
