Welcome to the 528th edition of Android Apps Weekly. Here we discuss the latest mobile news and take a closer look at some of the most interesting new apps and games. Without further ado, let’s take a look at some of last week’s biggest highlights.

  • Do you have too many forgotten old tabs open in mobile Chrome? A piece of code in Chromium suggests that Google may soon solve this problem with its new Tab Declutter feature. In other words, this feature automatically cleans up old and inactive tabs that have not been used in a while. As someone who often has more than 40 tabs open, this could be useful, but I really wish they introduced a way to mark special tabs to keep active permanently.
  • Google is upgrading search with new generative AI features designed with summer travel in mind. This new feature affects Google Shopping and Google Maps, including the ability to use AI to summarize important insights about the places you search.
  • A teardown of the new Google Search APK reveals that Gemini may soon be coming to tablets. The function already exists, but the string is currently deactivated. 9to5Google I successfully enabled this feature on my Pixel Tablet and found that unlike my phone, it can also work in parallel with Google Assistant.
  • Telegram is offering Telegram premium access to some users as part of its new peer-to-peer login program. Basically, if you agree to let Telegram use your number to send up to 150 one-time PINs to other users via her SMS, you will receive additional benefits for free. While this may seem fine, keep in mind that other users will have access to your phone number, and you will be responsible for any carrier fees associated with SMS.
  • The Google Messages beta introduces several new changes, including improvements that make it easier to attach multiple images within a conversation. Additionally, Google Messages is finally offering Gemini to some beta users.

Android App Weekly: New Apps and Games

Looking for a new Android app or game to immerse yourself in? There weren’t any big new apps this week, but there were quite a few notable games.

AFK journey

  • price: Free with in-app purchases

Set in the same world as the classic RPG AFK Arena, this new entry puts you in the role of the sorcerer Merlin, albeit set in the world of Hesperia. I’m a huge fan of the original, so I spent about an hour with this game. Overall, the game runs well without any major glitches or issues, which is always a good thing. It has decent controls, great voice acting, and some of the best mobile graphics available.

Personally, I thought the story was a little too generic, but at least there’s a story, and as far as I can tell, it’s pretty well fleshed out. Overall, this doesn’t live up to the older titles and is far from perfect, but it’s still a very fun and easy to play game, so I recommend checking it out.

Imagine taking over a plant store without knowing anything about plants. Despite this lack of knowledge, there are customers with unique needs and need to determine which plants are suitable for them. Essentially, this is a puzzle game where the objective is to identify the correct plant and satisfy the customer.

If this sounds even a little familiar, this version has been available on Steam and consoles for a while, although it’s about half the price. I haven’t personally played the Android version, but I can vouch for the Steam game. The general experience seems to be the same, just ported.

secret secret management

  • price: Free with in-app purchases

The Dark Time Management series continues with a new chapter in this cooking/time management game series. This time, Bella Moon has to reconcile with her sister and ultimately save her sister. If you’ve never played these games before, it’s like two games turned into one. During the day, you’ll help run your business by delivering food and drinks where they’re needed. At night? This game offers a completely different experience as Bella explores the city around her and wants to uncover many of her dark secrets before it’s too late.

ball sort quiz

  • price: Free basic experience with ads, premium version $0.99

Looking for something a little more calm? Ball Sort Quiz may certainly fit that requirement. The game is very simple. There are many tubes with different balls inside. Tap on one tube to move the ball to another tube. The goal is to categorize and organize them in the right place. Sounds pretty familiar, right? This is no coincidence, since it’s basically a copy of Ball Sort Puzzle. There are some small changes, including the ability to add unique skins to the ball and turn it into other objects, such as donuts. Yes, this is a cash grab, but they’re at least trying to make it slightly different.

amazon one

  • price: Free with in-app purchases

Amazon One is a new way to pay for products in stores using just the palm of your hand. There’s no need to take out your wallet, cards, or even your phone. As you might expect, this only works in stores with devices that can detect palms, such as Amazon-owned Whole Foods, but like any technology, it will be rolled out to more locations over time. There is a possibility. In addition to purchasing, Amazon One can also be integrated into business security gates and more. I like this concept, but I think it will be a while before it really catches on.
