The full release of Android 15 is expected around the third quarter of 2024, and some of the new features in Android 15 will be announced at: Google I/O 2024was held on May 14th.
As part of the Android 15 update, widgets may return to your Android tablet’s lock screen.
Widgets give you quick access to key app information without opening the app itself, allowing you to see notes, email, calendar, and more at a glance, but only from your Android device’s home screen.
Lock screen widgets were available on both phones and tablets as part of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean in 2012, but were removed in Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Currently, you can only access three apps when your device is locked: Google Calendar, Google Clock, and Google Apps. However, a potential update will remove the need to unlock your tablet to access useful widgets like YouTube Music, Photos, and Contacts, adding an additional layer of customization to your device.

Android permissions After digging into the Android 15 beta code, we discovered that widgets are back. We’ve discovered a new “Shared Space” that allows users to add widgets from apps of their choice. This space can be accessed by swiping in from the right side of the lock screen.

2. Smart home screensaver control
The Android 15 update may introduce a new screensaver named ‘Home Controls’ that will allow users to access home controls directly from the screensaver.
This update adds Home Control to that list, allowing you to control compatible Google Home devices while your phone or tablet is charging.
This may include Google Nest devices such as cameras, thermostats, and doorbells. When selected, Home Controls displays the favorite controls for enabled devices when the screensaver is activated.
However, the Home Control screensaver apparently only supports Google Home devices and not other device controls, meaning other smart home apps will have to develop their own dedicated screensavers.
Screensavers have been built into Android smartphones since Android 9 and allow them to display photos, colors, or a simple clock while charging. The addition of home controls could be helpful and will be available on both Android smartphones and tablets, but will probably see more use on tablets.
Currently, to access Google Home settings, you must open the Google Home app and launch it using Google Assistant, a lock screen shortcut, or by selecting the Quick Settings tile.
None of these are too difficult, but adding a screen saver can be a useful time saver if you want quick access to your smart home settings, or if your docked tablet is idle.
3. Google Wallet as the default wallet app
Finally, Android 15 may introduce the ability to set your preferred default wallet app for making payments and storing wallet information.
Digital wallets allow users to store credit cards, discount and reward cards, train tickets and boarding passes, and event tickets.
Android is well known for its ability to set preferred apps as the default for most phone functions, including web browsing, file management, media playback, and calendaring. However, to make payments using NFC, you must currently only use the Google Wallet app.
This may change with the Android 15 update, which will apparently allow you to select from a list of apps that use your phone’s NFC functionality to make payments and save your wallet information. This is in contrast to Apple users who are currently limited to using only Apple Wallet on their devices.

As with all leaked beta features, it’s important to note that some, if not all, of the potential additions to Android 15 described above are not guaranteed. Code inspections can often be open to interpretation. These may be introduced in future updates such as Android 16 and 17, but they may also be abandoned completely.
Those who are adventurous enough to try out the Android 15 beta should keep in mind that as an early version of the OS, it is unstable and may experience glitches and crashes. Therefore, we recommend you to back up your device first or wait until the official release.
