When it comes to superfoods, these are top of the line.

According to health experts, adding superfoods to your daily diet can “power pack your meals and snacks” with important nutrients. As the name suggests, superfoods are generally more nutritious than other foods, which is a huge benefit.

Now we have the finest of these superfoods.

Today’s Dietitian consulted 564 registered dietitians for its annual “Trends in Nutrition” survey to determine the top 10 superfoods.

Fermented foods such as yogurt, kimchi, kombucha and pickles topped the list, followed by blueberries, seeds such as chia and hemp, avocados and nuts, including almonds and walnuts.

According to Today’s Dietitian, experts believe these will be the most in-demand superfoods of the year because they promote gut health, which is top of mind for many people these days.

“The top superfoods and purchase drivers for 2024 show that long-debated gut health is officially becoming mainstream with consumers and shows no signs of slowing down.” Mara Honicker, publisher of Today’s Dietician, said in a statement.

The top 10 also includes staples of the Mediterranean diet (named one of the best diets of the year by U.S. News & World Report), including green tea, legumes (such as dried peas, beans, lentils, and chickpeas), mushrooms, ancient grains, and salmon. ) was ranked. .

In addition to the trending Mediterranean diet, plant-based eating is still all the rage, ranking as the second most popular dietary trend after intermittent fasting, nutritionists say.

Last year, watercress was named the “world’s healthiest food” due to its rich nutritional content that prevents disease and protects athletes from training injuries. It has also been declared the most nutritious vegetable on the planet, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

And although it didn’t make it to Today’s Dietitian’s 2024 list, a study last year found that broccoli has the power to not only suppress disease but also protect and promote gut health. .
